1. What this category covers: banners, marquees and flags
Under the custom banners and marquees umbrella we bring together three distinct pieces that are often confused with each other: the printed banner (a printed textile surface with no structure of its own, hung or fixed to a facade, a fence or a stand), the custom marquee or gazebo (a set-up structure with the printed banner built in, designed to give shelter and brand presence at the same time) and the large-format flag (a vertical piece, usually narrower and taller, designed to hang on lampposts, entrances or facades). All three share the same manufacturing base — large-format printing on banner fabric — but solve different needs, and getting the order right is largely about choosing the right piece for your project, not just the design.
We manufacture these pieces with the same approach we apply across our made-to-measure production: with the design or brand of whoever commissions it, rather than a closed catalogue of fixed sizes and formats. Just as we already do with costumes, headpieces, banners and marquees for Fallas committees, this line is built both for associations and local entities and for companies that need outdoor brand presence.
2. Printed banner vs structural marquee: the real distinction
It's common to mix up these two concepts in the first conversation — "I want a banner for the fair" when what's actually needed is the full marquee — so it's worth clarifying from the start. A printed banner is the textile surface with your design: it has no structure of its own, it needs something to hold it up (a facade, a fence, a gateway, or the frame of a marquee). A custom marquee is the complete structure — frame, roof and, depending on the model, side walls — with the printed banner built into the roof, the sides or both: it's the piece that's set up and taken down to give real shelter to a stand or a pitch.
This distinction matters because it changes what you need to order: if you already have a marquee frame and only need to refresh the printed design, what you're ordering is a replacement banner sized to your existing structure. If you're starting from scratch and need both shelter and brand image, the project is a full marquee. Telling us where your project stands — whether you already have a structure or not — is one of the first things we ask when we start talking about your order.
We don't work from a closed catalogue of marquee or banner sizes. Every project is sized to your real space — the fair stand, the association's facade, the council building entrance — so measurements are confirmed with you before production, not picked from a fixed list.
3. Materials and durability: what we can honestly tell you
An outdoor banner or marquee has to withstand sun, wind and, in many cases, rain for as long as the event or usage season lasts. There are different banner fabric families with different weights, opacity and weather behaviour, and the right choice depends on how and where the piece will be used: a banner that's set up and taken down every weekend at a market isn't the same as a marquee that stays installed for longer outside a headquarters.
We'd rather be honest here than give you a generic spec sheet: the specific material, weight and durability specifications that make sense for your project depend on the real exposure the piece will face, and we assess that with you, looking at your actual project, not a universal features table that probably won't fit your specific case. Tell us where and how you're going to use the banner or marquee — indoors or outdoors, one-off or repeated use, how much sun exposure — and we'll recommend the right material.
We'd rather confirm the exact material and finish with you before production than publish a closed spec sheet that doesn't fit your real project. It's the same made-to-measure logic we apply across the rest of our catalogue.
4. How it's personalised: your design, crest or brand
Personalising a banner or marquee always starts with your design: your company logo, your association or committee's crest, a town council's municipal crest, or the visual identity of a sports or cultural event. Unlike a textile garment, a banner is a large surface seen mostly from a distance, which shifts some design priorities compared to a small piece like a pin or a keyring: contrast, text size and logo simplicity matter here more than fine detail, precisely because the piece will be read from far away, not up close.
As with the rest of our production, if your organisation doesn't yet have a design adapted to this format, the logical first step is a custom graphic design project before moving into production. You don't need to arrive with the perfect file: tell us what logo or crest you have and we'll tell you whether it needs adapting before printing it at large format.
5. Real use cases
Fairs and markets: stalls and stands
Identifying banner for a stall or stand, with the business name or exhibitor's logo, designed to be set up and taken down at every fair or market.
Sports and cultural events
Marquees for checkpoints, refreshment stations or organisation areas, and banners or flags with the event's image at entrances and walkways.
Community associations and committees
Marquees and banners for the organisation's outdoor events, with its own crest and colours, in the same line we already work for Fallas committees.
Councils and public spaces
Institutional banners and flags for facades, entrances or municipal events, with the council's crest or the campaign or event's image.
Companies: outdoor brand presence
Branded marquees for trade fairs, own events or outdoor presence, with the same imagery the company already uses across its other merchandising.
Any other outdoor project
If your case doesn't fit exactly into the categories above, tell us about your project: since it's made-to-measure manufacturing, we assess it individually.
6. Banner vs marquee vs flag: comparison table and which to choose
There's no piece that's "best" in absolute terms: there's a piece that's more suitable depending on what you already have set up, the space you need to cover and where the design will be seen. This table summarises the basic logic for deciding where to start the conversation with us.
| Piece | What it is | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Printed banner | Textile surface with your design, no structure of its own | Dressing an existing structure, a facade or a stand |
| Custom marquee | Full structure (frame, roof and, depending on model, side walls) with an integrated banner | Giving shelter and brand presence at once: fairs, markets and events |
| Large-format flag | Tall, narrow vertical piece, designed to hang | Entrances, lampposts, facades, event signage |
7. Ordering process: from idea to installation
Get in touch on WhatsApp, telling us what you need (banner, marquee or flag), where it will be installed, and whether you already have a design or logo.
We confirm the real measurements of the space (stand, facade, entrance) and whether an existing marquee structure needs to be matched.
We recommend the material based on intended use: one-off or repeated, indoor or outdoor.
A tailored quote on WhatsApp, with a mockup of the design on the banner or marquee before production.
Production and delivery, with in-house production in Spain and shipping across Spain and Western Europe.
8. How to prepare your design before ordering
Unlike a small textile garment, a banner or marquee is printed at a much larger size, which changes some basic rules for preparing the file. Here are the ones we check most often before sending a design to production:
Vector format whenever possible
A logo in vector format (AI, EPS, vector PDF) can be scaled to any size without losing sharpness, especially important at large format, where a low-resolution image pixelates very visibly when enlarged.
Resolution for images
If the design includes photography or a non-vector image, the higher the original resolution, the better it behaves when enlarged to the final size. As a rule of thumb, the bigger the final piece, the more starting resolution you need.
Safety margins
In large-format printing it's worth leaving a margin around important elements (text, logo) so they aren't right up against the edge, because the sewing or the marquee assembly can slightly trim or fold the edge of the banner.
Contrast and text size
A banner is usually read from a distance, not up close. Small text or low-contrast colours that work well on a screen or an A4 sheet can completely lose legibility when seen from several metres away.
Colour mode
Files intended for printing should be prepared with large-format colour reproduction in mind, which differs from how colour looks on a screen. If you're unsure how a specific colour will look, it's best to check before approving the final design.
You don't need to master it yourself
If you send us the logo or design you have, we'll tell you whether it needs adapting before production. If you don't have a design yet, we can help you develop one from scratch.
9. Common mistakes when ordering
- Not stating the real measurements of the space or existing structure: ordering a "standard" banner without confirming the size of the stand, facade or existing marquee frame is the most common mistake, and the one that delays an order the most.
- Sending a low-resolution logo without flagging it: a logo downloaded from a website or pulled from social media almost never has the resolution needed to print sharply at large format.
- Not leaving a safety margin in the design: text or logos right up to the edge can end up cut off or folded during sewing or assembly.
- Confusing a banner with a marquee when requesting a quote: asking for "a banner" when what's actually needed is the full structure (or vice versa) creates back-and-forth that's easily avoided by clarifying from the first message whether you already have a structure or not.
- Leaving the order until the event is already close: banners and marquees for fairs, sports events or institutional occasions have a fixed date; the sooner you reach out with the design decided, the more room there is to get the project right without rushing.
- Not planning for repeated use: if the banner or marquee will be used at several events throughout the year, it's worth saying so from the start, because it changes which material makes sense compared with a single, one-off event.
10. Beetle Print's coverage: production and shipping
As with the rest of our made-to-measure production, we work closely with associations, committees, councils and companies across Spain for custom banner and marquee projects: the same network that already covers merchandising for the Fallas festival and its committees and the rest of our custom clothing and merchandising guide. Production is in-house and European, and shipping reaches all of Spain and Western Europe.
11. Frequently asked questions
A printed banner is just the textile surface with your design, with no structure of its own; a custom marquee is the full structure with the banner built in. If you already have a structure and only need to refresh the design, you're ordering a made-to-measure banner for your marquee; if you're starting from scratch, the project is a full marquee.
We don't work from a closed catalogue of sizes. Every project is sized to your real space — the stand, the facade, the entrance — so measurements are confirmed with you before production.
It depends on how and where the piece will be used — one-off or repeated use, sun exposure, how long it will stay installed. We recommend the right material once we know your project, rather than giving you a generic spec sheet that might not fit your case.
Yes. It's common to renew just the printed banner while keeping the existing structure; for that we need the exact measurements of your current marquee.
Preferably in vector format (AI, EPS or vector PDF). If you only have an image, the higher the resolution, the better it behaves when enlarged to the final size. If you're not sure, send us what you have and we'll tell you whether it needs adapting.
