Beetle Print silicone bowl - what it is and how to choose

Silicone bowl: what it is, what it’s for and how to choose one

If you've been using glass accessories and broken them more than once, you're probably already looking at alternatives. The silicone bowl has become the best-selling accessory in European headshops for one very clear reason: it doesn't break, doesn't absorb residue, and cleans in seconds. This guide explains exactly what it is, the real differences from glass, and how to choose the right one for you.

What is a silicone bowl?

A silicone bowl is a smoking piece made from food-grade silicone, BPA-free and suitable for thermal use. It works exactly like a glass or wooden bowl: used for smoking herbs, tobacco blends or aromatic plants. The key difference is the material: food-grade silicone withstands temperatures up to 220°C without deforming or releasing toxins, is chemically inert, and has a naturally non-stick surface.

What is food-grade silicone? Food-grade silicone is certified under FDA (21 CFR) and European LFGB standards. It is a silicon polymer that does not react with heat, oils, or alcohols. Not to be confused with soft plastics or industrial silicone.

Silicone bowl vs glass vs wood vs metal

✅ Silicone

Unbreakable. Non-stick. Dishwasher safe. Lightweight. Easy to carry.

⚠️ Glass

Clean flavour but fragile. One knock and it's gone. Gets dirty with resin fast.

⚠️ Wood

Premium aesthetic but absorbs resins. Hard to clean, can crack with moisture.

⚠️ Metal

Very durable but can overheat and transfer metallic flavours.

How to clean a silicone bowl

Basic (daily): Hot water + washing-up liquid. Rub and rinse. Under 1 minute.
Deep (resin buildup): Coarse salt + 70% isopropyl alcohol in a bag. Shake 30 seconds, rinse hot.
Quick: Most Beetle Print bowls are dishwasher safe (top rack).

Can silicone bowls be used for extracts?

Not exactly. For storing extracts (wax, resin, BHO) you need a non-stick silicone container — a wax container or dab jar.
